By Nikita AgarwalMumbai- After celebrating numerous events, Google Doodle is back to celebrate Earth Day today. This day is marked to appreciate and be aware of the mother Earth.

The Earth Day became popular ever since it was first celebrated in the United States in 1970. It was in this year that Senator Nelson came up with the idea of Earth Day after observing oil spill on the coast of Santa Barbara in 1969.
Following this he wanted to create awareness among people of the effects that man made disasters such as this can have on an ecosystem.
The first Earth Day was supported by thousands of organizations and to mark this day several events were organized in Philadelphia and new York City.
Following this the United Nations have designated 22nd April as Earth Day. the new logo specially created by Google to mark the anniversary of Earth Day represents a garden where both animals and plants gather in the form of a symbiosis.
In the image China is placed on the left along with pandas and bamboos. It passes through an African jungle having fat trunked trees and birds flying from the trees.
A lion is seen entering Antartica, a penguin is seen jumping into a waterfall. It also shows the Australian country where a koala is seen in a tree and finally we see a temperate deciduous forest.
The logo shows a perfect harmony of the ecosystems when left untouched and the necessity to preserve the environment.
